Mike Pratt was a three-year letterwinner under legendary coach Adolph Rupp at the University of Kentucky from 1967 through 1970. In 1970, while playing alongside UK’s all-time leading scorer, Dan Issel, the 6-4 Pratt averaged 19.3 points per game as the Wildcats finished as the nation’s top-ranked team. Kentucky completed that season with a 26-2 record, losing to Artis Gilmore and Jacksonville in a memorable regional final, 106-100. Pratt is a member of UK’s prestigious 1,000-point club, ranking 21st with 1,359 points in his three-year career. Following his career with the Wildcats he was selected in the 1970 American Basketball Association draft by the Kentucky Colonels, where he played two seasons and averaged six points per game. Following his playing days he became an assistant coach under Lee Rose at UNC Charlotte, helping the 49ers to reach the 1977 NCAA Final Four. After Rose accepted the head coaching job at Purdue following the 1977–78 season, Pratt was chosen as his successor. Pratt coached the 49ers for four seasons, compiling a record of 55–52 before being relieved of his duties following the 1981–82 season. Pratt now does analysis on radio broadcasts of University of Kentucky basketball games. He joined the University of Kentucky Radio Network in 2001. In 2009 he was inducted into the University of Kentucky Athletics Hall of Fame. |
